Thinking About Selling?  Check Your Home’s Curb Appeal!

There are always things to do inside the home in preparation for selling:  clearing clutter, painting, sorting closets, cleaning, cleaning and cleaning.  But, don’t forget to actually take a hard look at your home’s curb appeal.  Walk across the street, look carefully at your property from the curb, consider whether you are drawn toward the home or if you’re ready to run!

Assuming we can all find things to improve the curb appeal of our homes, here’s a short list of things that will add to the appeal of your home without costing a lot:

  • Check your landscaping closest to the street:  remove weeds, replace plants, rake, add new mulch

  • Mow the grass, trim shrubbery

  • Trim trees away from the roof and from in front of windows

  • Clean smudges from front door area, sweep porch, replace Welcome mat

  • Paint the door and trim if needed

  • Add a colorful pot of flowers and/or decorative signage to welcome visitors at the door

  • Wash windows and screens (if damaged, replace screens)

  • Do a “once-over” daily to remove kids toys, evidence of pets, old newspapers, etc.

This sounds like a ton of stuff to do, but remember, a Buyer has to like the curb appeal of a home before they are ready to take a look inside.  Each look inside has the potential to be an offer so don’t miss the opportunity to draw in as many showings as possible.

Maybe you are not ready to sell just yet.  Add this quick list to your list of things to do and start tackling them one at a time.  Soon you’ll be ready to go!  By the way, if you are in the San Antonio area and not currently working with an Agent, I’d like to visit with you.  Good luck on the sale—when you are ready!
